On Wednesday, August 7th, a Los Angeles jury convicted two men of murdering PnB Rock during a robbery at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles.

Freddie Trone and Tremont Jones were found guilty of murder, robbery, and conspiracy related to the incident. “I’m elated,” said Rock’s mother, Deannea Allen, in a statement to Rolling Stone after the verdict.

“I wanted to jump up and scream, ‘Hallelujah.’ I’m so happy it was quick. We got justice for Rakim. I feel better knowing they’ll be in jail for a long time.”

Prosecutors alleged that Trone orchestrated the robbery that led to the death of the “There She Go” artist. Trone’s then-17-year-old son, the third assailant, reportedly confronted Rock, demanding his jewelry at gunpoint. When Rock resisted, he was fatally shot.

Surveillance footage presented during the trial showed the teenager exiting a car driven by Jones and entering the restaurant with a gun, allegedly provided by his father.

Throughout the trial, Trone maintained his innocence. “There’s no evidence to show my client was called to the scene, no phone calls, no text messages. They want you to believe he just intuited that his services would be required for a robbery-homicide,” argued Trone’s defense lawyer, Winston McKesson.

“There’s no evidence that my client planned anything. You have no evidence that he intended anything.”

However, Deputy District Attorney Timothy Richardson countered, “In six minutes, the defense wants you to believe that [the teen shooter] rounded up his friends, got a gun, hopped in his dad’s car, and drove back to the Roscoe’s. Coincidence? No. Coordinated acts? Yes.”

Sentencing for Trone and Jones is set for August 27th, while the juvenile involved will face a mental competency hearing on August 28th.

Before his untimely death, Rock released SoundCloud Daze, a 12-track project featuring artists like Iayze, Yung Fazo, and Pasto Flocco. His single “Luv Me Again,” released in September 2022, was his first as an independent artist.
