Doja Cat Unleashes Chilling ‘Demons’ Music Video Starring Christina Ricci

Today, Doja Cat unveiled her latest single, “Demons,” accompanied by a music video featuring Christina Ricci. This release builds anticipation for her upcoming album, Scarlet, and takes listeners on a journey into the rapper’s mysterious psyche through a visually stunning and eerie narrative.

Directed by Christian Breslauer, the music video casts Ricci as a suburban mother unsettled by the nocturnal activities of a horned Doja Cat. The scenes are reminiscent of classic horror films like Poltergeist, adding to the overall unsettling atmosphere. The presence of a “sold” sign in front of Ricci’s house foreshadows the nightmarish events that unfold within.

In “Demons,” Doja Cat delivers her verses with haunting bravado, questioning, “How my demons look now that my pockets are full?” She continues to challenge with lines like, “How my demons look now that you b**ches shook?”

The song also addresses a recurring notion that Doja Cat is not a rapper but a pop artist. This debate has been voiced by others in the industry, such as Remy Ma, who stated in a recent interview, “I don’t think she’s a rapper, but she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”

The “Demons” video takes viewers on a visual journey as Doja Cat submerges herself in a tub of black water and joins forces with hellhounds while crawling on the ceiling. Notably, there is also a homage to the typewriter scene from The Shining.

Scarlet is set to be released on streaming platforms on September 22nd. On August 31st, Doja Cat made a change to the album’s cover artwork due to comparisons to the upcoming LP of the German hardcore metal band Chaver, titled Of Gloom. The original artwork also drew online attention from Nicki Minaj’s fan base, claiming that she was copying the head Barb’s 2014’s The Pinkprint LP.
