SZA Announces Her Third Studio Album ‘LANA’ Is “Coming Soon” During “Hot Ones” New Interview

SZA appeared as the latest guest on First We Feast’s “Hot Ones,” which aired on Thursday (Sept. 26). During her sit-down with host Sean Evans, the St. Louis native touched on her journey, her “toxic” relationship with music, and life on tour.
Adding a unique twist, SZA wore a prosthetic mask, saying she was “just tired of being not a bug.” This critter-inspired look, crafted by FX makeup artists Malina Stearns and Sasha Glasser, was first seen in June when she teased an unreleased song and video featuring her as a blue cricket.
SZA joked with Evans, “Is it me? I’m tired of being me,” and confirmed that her third album, LANA, is “coming soon.” Though she remained tight-lipped about the details, she did reflect on her past projects, Ctrl and SOS.
Speaking about Ctrl, which recently hit its seven-year anniversary, SZA noted, “People weren’t really feeling it when it first dropped. It was more of a slow rise.” She added, “I’m just surprised at how everything played out – it wasn’t what I expected but more than I ever imagined. Now, people are calling it a ‘classic.’”
SZA also shared the story behind securing Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s posthumous verse on SOS’s track “Forgiveless,” admitting, “I did a lot of begging. I honestly thought they’d say no.” The late rapper was one of a few features on the album, alongside Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Wrapping up her “Hot Ones” appearance, SZA said, “I’m going through a breakup, it’s super hot, and these wings were great. I’m excited for my album, and I’m wishing the best for his relationship. Thanks for teaching me today.”
