Tyrese and DJ Envy Reconcile Their Longstanding Feud

In a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Tyrese and DJ Envy appeared to mend fences and address the rift that had strained their friendship for some time.

During his interview with the show’s hosts, including Charlamagne tha God, Jess Hilarious, and DJ Envy, R&B artist Tyrese, aged 44, took the opportunity to discuss his strained relationships, particularly with DJ Envy, whom he referred to as his “brother.” Tyrese revealed that he was on an “apology tour” of sorts and wanted to address the issues that had led to the deterioration of their friendship.

“This is the part that I don’t appreciate about Envy, is when Tyrese divorce comes across y’all headline – when the captions associated to the things that come across your desk. Where is that same heart and love that I extended to you, that you could extend to me instead of it just being paper pushing and…’Tyrese is on the gram again okay that’s expected’,”

He continues,

“While every on-air personality, Blog, podcast whatever they got a job to do they gonna say things for click bait ratings this and that, but when you have certain people on the radio and you’ve developed some type of relationship with them…why is my marriage funny?…Why is my divorce just something to talk about?”

Tyrese began the conversation by expressing his frustration with his friends at the time, who he claimed didn’t reach out to him during a difficult period in his life when his marriage was falling apart. Tyrese and his then-wife Samantha Gibson announced their separation in 2020 after four years of marriage and the birth of their daughter. While the exact reasons behind their split were unclear, they had initially stated it was a mutual decision and that they intended to remain “the best of friends.” However, tensions escalated as they grappled with child support and living arrangements.

Charlamagne asserted that he had reached out to Tyrese during this challenging time, but DJ Envy offered a different perspective. He explained that he had intentionally refrained from reaching out because he no longer considered Tyrese a friend. DJ Envy alleged that he had lost respect for Tyrese because he observed inconsistencies between Tyrese’s public persona and his private behavior. Additionally, DJ Envy claimed that Tyrese had made inappropriate comments to his wife, which further strained their relationship.

“You were going through and I tried to talk…I’ve seen who you were and I didn’t even like who you were online…When I seen how you were talking… I said ‘I’m going to take a step back’…you talk to [my wife] in a disrespectful manner and I never told nobody…you could say you were on those psych meds and you could say that you weren’t…but as a man some of the things that you said Tyrese deserved me to box your mouth”

he added:

“That was the reason why I stopped talking to you and will not reach out to you anymore because I’m like I don’t want to remember my brother as that. And maybe you [were] going through problems,…[but] if I talk to your wife disrespectful I don’t expect for you to come check on me and that’s how I felt at that time.”

Tyrese firmly stated that he had little recollection of many events during that period due to the influence of powerful psychiatric medication. As previously covered, Tyrese had claimed that these medications had altered his behavior and shattered his self-confidence, leading to a widely shared emotional video in which he tearfully opened up about his struggles.

Despite the differences and past grievances, Tyrese offered his sincere apologies and expressed his hope that those he had hurt during that time would find it in their hearts to forgive him. He acknowledged that he had been “out of his mind” and expressed a desire for grace and understanding, drawing parallels to the grace that God extends to everyone.

By the end of the conversation, it appeared that both Tyrese and DJ Envy were open to the possibility of showing grace and potentially repairing their friendship.
