Colombian songstress Shakira is facing 8 years in Jail in charges stemming from a tax fraud case in Spain. A Spanish prosecutor is seeking an eight-year prison sentence and a fine of more than $23.5 million for Shakira over a tax fraud case.  Shakira has chosen to go to trial instead of settling for a deal negotiated by Spanish prosecutors to settle allegations she defrauded Spain’s government of 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes. Spanish prosecutors charged the singer in 2018 with failing to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

She however has maintained her innocence stating that the period in which she is being accused of financially delinquent is a time where she did not even reside in Spain. Shakira’s team said she has deposited the amount she is said to owe with the Spanish Tax Agency and has no pending tax debts. Upon the news coming out many of the” Whenever Wherever” Singers fans shared their hilarious reactions to the news on social media.
