The former NFL quarterback plans to help elevate the 3-on-3 league while still making a push for a potential comeback.

Colin Kaepernick recently invested in the struggling league – that was on the verge of shutting down completely – founded by legendary rapper and actor Ice Cube, along with Jeff Kwatinetz in 2017. The league features a plethora of former professional players, coaches and even some who were overlooked along the way. According to Shams, the new agreement will see Kaepernick helping the league continue operating and growing.

While many may know Kaepernick from his apparent “shadow banning” from the NFL for his protest of the national anthem that inevitably resulted in a fallout with the San Francisco 49ers, his talent was and remains undeniable. Regarding the kneeling during the anthem, Kaepernick has always made it very clear that those protests were to bring light to police brutality and institutionalized racism in America. After being released following the 2016 season, he eventually filed a grievance with the NFL in 2017, claiming that league owners colluded to blackball him. He and the league reached a confidential settlement with the league shortly after.

So as Kaepernick waits for the call that very well may never come, he has stayed active and still trains to help lead a team to the Super Bowl, if needed.
