According to reports, Vic Mensa has worked out a deal to plead guilty to misdemeanor drug charges after facing felony charges for possession of LSD & mushrooms. Originally, the Chicago rapper, 29, faced a felony narcotics possession charge.

The deal with prosecutors was made in Loudoun County, Virginia and called for him to plead guilty to a class one misdemeanor: a count of possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.

According to reports, Mensa uses the drugs to help him cope with mental health struggles and stated that he believes the “silver lining” from his arrest will be that there is an “increased focus on the effectiveness of psychedelic drugs in the treatment of mental illness.”

Court documents revealed that there was initially a sentence of one year that was ultimately suspended as part of the deal itself. Effective immediately, the former GOOD Music signee will undergo one year of unsupervised probation. He will also have to take a substance abuse assessment, perform 25 hours of community service and pay a $1,000 fine – which will be waived 50 percent if he completes the terms of his probation.

The initial arrest took place in January at Virginia’s Dulles International Airport while returning from a trip to Ghana. He was then charged with Felony Drug Possession after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers found psilocybin mushrooms, capsules and LSD in his luggage. He was released shortly after.
