It has been almost five years since we’ve received an album from Kendrick and to say the bar is high would be an understatement. His last album, DAMN., was a critically acclaimed masterpiece that went on to win five Grammys and a Pulitzer Prize, making it the first rap album to ever receive the award. With each release, Kendrick has given us different sides of himself.

On his first album. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, he gives us a coming-of-age story where he’s viewing the ever-growing city of Compton from a bird’s eye view. On his next album, Lamar has finally received the worldwide recognition that he sought after for so long, but at what cost? He begins to feel burdened by his success. Constantly feeling an alternating between confidence and guilt for how his stardom has separated him from his love ones.

The overall sound is drastically different from his previous works as well. To Pimp A Butterfly was heavily influenced by jazzy synths and horns. Kendrick himself has said that a lot of that album was influenced by the likes of Prince, Miles Davis & James Brown, to name a few. In his most recent project, DAMN., Lamar gave us a blockbuster album full of masterful rapping and hits like ‘DNA’, ‘HUMBLE’ & the Rihanna assisted track ‘LOYALTY’. This is Kendrick’s safest album since G.K.M.C. We don’t know much about his newest project but, one thing we’ve come to know for sure is that Kendrick will always deliver us with an album that is nothing short of a full display of his greatness.
