Jazmine Sullivan Wins ‘Best R&B Album’ at 64th Grammy Awards + ‘Heaux Tales’ Film

It’s been a long time coming for Philly’s very own Jazmine Sullivan, whose previously been nominated multiple times in the past but never won, up until last night at the 64th Grammy awards ceremony in which she took him the trophy for both “Best R&B Album” for Heaux Tales and “Best R&B Performance” for her fan-favorite, “Pick Up Your Feelings.”

The 34-year old singer/songwriter can now rock the “Grammy award winner” title proudly after a decade plus long career of hard work and perseverance. During her acceptance speech on stage last night, the singer, whose currently on tour had this to share:

“I think that I wrote this project to deal with my own shame and unforgiveness around some of the decisions that I made in my twenties that weren’t favorable,” Sullivan said in her acceptance speech. “But what it ended up being was a safe space for Black women to tell their stories, for us to learn from each other, laugh with each other, and not be exploited at the same time. That’s what I’m most grateful for. So shout out to all Black women who are just living their lives and being beautiful. I love you all.”

While backstage during her radio/TV interview run, one outlet asked about the potential of a Heaux Tales film, in which Jazmine responded that she’s planning on something with Issa Rae and will hopefully share details very soon.
