Last week I wrote about Big Sean’s epic freestyle on LA Leakers where he rapped over a variety of beats including Drake’s ‘Love All’ and Kanye West’s ‘Hurricane.’ At the time the appearance on LA Leakers seemed like more of a Hip-Hop coincidence. Big Sean along with his frequent collaborator Hit-Boy were on what has been a destination for every artist’s press run when promoting new music this year with nothing to promote announced at the time. However, the thought of a coincidence was quickly shut down last Friday when Big Sean and Hit-Boy released their new track ‘What A Life’ along with a music video that featured Big Sean keeping his cool while being covered in thousands of bees.

Fast-forward to today, and we now know that ‘What A Life’ was a precursor to the next project from Big Sean and Hit-Boy. The rapper-producer tandem plan to drop their new EP What You Expect tonight. What You Expect is set to be the first project from Big Sean and Hit-Boy since their last project Detroit 2 that was released in 2020. In that span, while Sean has been quiet, Hit-Boy once again teamed up with Nas to deliver King’s Disease 2, a victory lap after their Grammy-winning album King’s Disease. What You Expect could be the sample to the next full-length album from Big Sean and Hit-Boy or a victory lap to celebrate their wildly successful Detroit 2. Regardless, based on what we’ve heard so far from Big Sean’s freestyle and ‘What A Life’ fans of the duo are in for some great music once the clock strikes midnight.
