T-Pain Goes off in a Rant About New Artists: “Give Me Some Original S**t!!”

Wednesday [July 13], the 2-time Grammy Award Winning singer/songwriter voiced his opinion [via Twitch and YouTube] about the state of music and his disdain of its repetitious sound and context.

“We know when your [explicit word] sounds like somebody else’s [explicit word]. You’re making it because you think — because you’re in the studio like ‘what’s the number one record right now? We need to make another one of those.’ Stop doing that!”

T-Pain is extremely vocal and passionate when it comes to things that resonates with him – primarily music and mental health. In this case, music was on the forefront of his passionate 9-minute debacle.

The ranges of octaves worked synonymous to his angst, especially when he called the newcomers into the industry ‘unoriginal.’

“We have all the [explicit word] that you’re doing! We already have it. Lil’ Uzi Vert is already doing it. Lil’ Baby is already doing it. Da Baby is already doing it! It’s literally two [explicit word] with baby in their names that’s already doing all the music you want!”

Creativity in the music industry has been mundane and repetitive for quite some time, now. You listen to the radio, majority of the artists sounds similar to the next – with similar context and similar production.

Although there are some amazing and talented artists such as Skip Marley, HER, DSVN, and Ari Lennox – some may question the oversaturation of other artists taking the authenticity and originality of the ‘real’ talented artists.

In the continuation of T-Pain’s tangent, he did make some key pointers about having a supportive financial backing – and how the algorithm of popularity could be purchased to gain traction and success.

“We’ve always had bad records. Every era of music had a bad record, but the reason that the bad record was good, was because the record label behind it decided ‘we could spend any amount of money on this [explicit word] and people have to listen to it.”

T-Pain continued, “I don’t give a [explicit word] what my numbers do. I don’t give a [explicit word] about numbers. I don’t give a [explicit word] about that [explicit word] because I know that it can be bought!”

The singer/songwriter alludes that record labels can purchase streams, awards, and radio play in order to gain traction and success. As if the record label is playing Monopoly with said artists.

It has been rumored and slightly addressed on different platforms on why certain songs or artists are more popular which seems to be less deserving – though it could be a bias inquiry due to their favorite artists not getting the recognition as deserved. Who knows, in this case, bt one thing is for certain that payola is a real thing.

The mainstream aspect of the music industry is complicated to say the least, but do you think T-Pain has some credibility of his statements?
