Chris Brown Sued For $1.5M Over “Privacy” Record; Allegedly Stole Portions From Dancehall Record

It looks like Chris Brown can’t seem to stay away from the spotlight, and not in a good way. “Privacy,” released by Brown through RCA Records (a label owned by Sony Music Entertainment) from his eighth studio album, Heartbreak on a Full Moon, seems to contain a sample from Red Rat’s classic dancehall hit “Tight Up Skirt,” which was not cleared.

Greensleeves Publishing Limited is suing Brown for allegedly using portions of the 1997 dancehall record on his track. In the seven-page legal document filed on July 2nd, Sony Music Entertainment is also listed. While Red Rat is not mentioned in the documentation and is seemingly not involved in suing Brown, he did share in an interview back in 2017 that his “phone has been ringing nonstop” with people reaching out to him asking his thoughts on the record.

“Give God The Glory. I think that because Chris Brown, who is one of the biggest pop stars globally, feeling the need to sample a piece of Tight Up Skirt only shows how much he loves and respects Red Rat and his catalog. It also shows how much of a fan he is to the music.” says the dancehall star.

Last week, TMZ reported his former housekeeper was suing brown as she alleges to have been mauled by Brown’s dog on his property, with Brown attempting to cover up the attack after 911 was called. The housekeeper shares that the incident occurred last December when Brown’s Caucasian Shepherd Ovcharka, Hades, attacked her at the singer’s residence.

In the documents, courtesy of TMZ, the former housekeeper who is using the name ‘Jane Doe,’ says she was emptying the trash somewhere outside when the canine appeared and attacked her, allegedly tearing into her skin and ripping chunks of flesh off of her face, arms, and body.

What makes the story worse is the former housekeeper alleges Brown and others heard her scream for help and did nothing.
