J. Cole Makes History As First Rapper To Cover Slam Mag; Drops New Album Tonight

J. Cole is making headlines and in a big way. It’s no secret the 36-year-old West Germany born rapper has a major interest in basketball, as the Rwanda newspaper, The New Times, has reported the “Crooked Smile” rapper is supposedly preparing to play a few games for FIBA’s Basketball Africa League. It was reported months back by Master P that Cole was set to play a few games in the NBA as well.

Welp, while we anticipate Cole to own the court in his highly anticipated basketball debut, the Dreamville rapper owned the cover of Slam Magazine’s cover 232nd issue this month, making history as the first rapper to do so.

Slam’s Chief Content Officer Adam Figman shared a comment as to why J. Cole was the perfect candidate for the cover:

J. Cole stands for everything SLAM stands for—the way basketball and music overlap and inspire greatness in one another. This cover was a long time coming, and we’re proud that we were able to make it happen just as Cole was about to release an album influenced by his love of hoops.

This comes ahead of his sixth studio album release, which is set to be released at midnight. The album consists of 12-tracks and no features attached. Can we see this album enter at #1? Are we excited for new J. Cole?
