Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé broke multiple standards in music histories this week with hit remixes; Doja Cat & Nicki Minaj with the remix to “Say So” and the Texan hotties Megan Thee Stallion
and Beyonce with the remix to “Savage.” Collectively, these women created a record for it being the first time in Billboard Chart history that the top 2 spots were covered by Black women. This is also the first time in the chart’s history that the top 2 spots have been occupied by female rappers as lead artists.

In addition to a collective record, both Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj have their own records. For the duo, this makes the first time in Billboard history that a rap song by two female emcees has gone #1. This is also both Doja Cat
and Nicki Minaj’s first number one records. From the time she entered the Billboard Charts to now, this makes Nicki the most entered into the charts before receiving a #1. Talk about longevity and perseverance! Doja and Nicki now join Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, Shawnna Iggy Azalea, Cardi B and Lizzo amongst the list of female rappers to achieve a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Megan and Beyonce also have their own personal records. “Savage (Remix)” is Megan’s highest charted song to date. This also makes Beyonce’s 19th song to make it to the top 10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. She has also charted at least one song each year since she’s debuted in the music industry in 1997, according to Chart Data on Twitter. Beyonce is also the first artist to achieve top 10s over the past  4 decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s).

A congratulations is in order for all of these women in there accomplishments. This is so huge for Black women in music and female rap. “Say So (Remix)” and “Savage (Remix)” are both available on all streaming platforms and wherever music is sold.
