The untimely demise of the late Nipsey Hussle exuded a combination of sorrow and gratitude. Nearly two months after the tragic slaying of the hip-hop legend and philanthropist, the legacy (or marathon) continues to spread vivaciously from all walks of life – whether one adheres his lyrics, interview, or overall contribution to his beloved city of Crenshaw.

Higher,’  symbolizes the trials and errors between family and faith.  The first verse apprises the beginning stages of his parent’s lives by overcoming the obstacles from his maternal grandmother who had several pregnancy complications that resulted to miscarriages, until the conception and birth of his (Nipsey’s) mother. The native of Crenshaw would go in depth of his father migrating from Eritrea after escaping war and relocated California at a tender age. He’d celebrate on the joys of fatherhood from his two children, Emani and Kross.

John Legend elevated the inspirational track with his Gospel-tinged hymns, while Hussle continued to reflect on his intemperate past.

The cinematic efforts directed by Eif-Rivera illustrated a simplistic view atop of a parking lot in Inglewood, California. Legend remained equidistant on the rooftop view while playing the piano.

Nipsey sported in his signature blue attire adjacent to two classic dark and light blue Convertibles, recited prophetic gems in honor of his past, present, and now; future through the sight of others as his legacy continues to move forward.

In lieu of the video, DJ Khaled remembers the late Nipsey Hussle, deeming ‘Higher’  as one of the last records to record and portray in the visual.

DJ Khaled recently sat with Beats 1 on a promotional campaign for his star-studded release; ‘Father of Ashad,’  reflecting on his relationship with Nipsey and coming about working on the record together.

“It’s been hard for me to watch the video, and listening to the song, but also, it’s very beautiful.”

The super producer took to social media to express his gratitude to Nipsey Hussle, stating:

“Recently, I embarked on a soul-searching journey down a road I never thought I would travel in million years. It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner, and my friend, Nipsey Hussle.”

He continues:

“Just a few days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called, “Higher.” After much prayer and reflection;  and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that moment with the world.”
