Bandplay, let’s it play with his latest singles he made off of the country album BigXThaPlug released.

Bandplay has worked with your favorite artists for over five years now. He had gotten his start by working with Memphis legends, Young Dolph and Key Glock, by being a dynamic duo and feeding the streets with great music elements. By “letting the bandplay,” the Nashville native has put so much work into his craft that with the success of smash hits by having Beyonce play the single of “The Largest” by BigXThaPlug on her latest tour, Cowboy Carter, Bandplay knew he was headed in the right direction!

We had sat down with the legendary producer himself to discuss his rise in fame, his relationship with BigXThaPlug and how he transitioned to do country music elements outside of doing hip-hop beats.

How is your relationship with BigXThaPlug in the studio?

That’s my brother. We are synced in sonically from in the studio and out the studio. We have a bond in and out of music!

When producing 9 songs on the album what was your goal on wanting to collaborate with BigX?

Me and X have been collaborating for about two going on three years now; and we’ve put numbers on the board from gold and platinum records and many more things. We all, as a collective, wanted to try something different as the industry tried to box us in. X and I had started with the Billboard charting single “All the Way,” and from there, we were extra motivated to push through for a project!

As you are meshing the genres together with the latest project, what is your favorite song you produced off the album?

I have a lot of favorites personally but one that hits home for me would be the song titled “Long Nights” with Thomas Rhett. We had the same writers from our other song called “Home” with Shaboozey. I had produced and wrote these two songs in the same day, and it was a special moment and statement to know that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be!

When creating the hit single with Shaboozey & BigXThaPlug called “Home” what was the breakdown of the song and meaning of making it?

The meaning of the song is simply about going through times whether it’s with your significant other or other issues; regardless, of it you steady strolling on this highway trying get back to the LOVE or to the days where nothing mattered. When I was in the studio with Tony Esterly, we both were going through some guitar riffs and melodies; and he had made and this song that stood out instantly. Bryant Taylor and Scoot Teasly, songwriters, were pitching around ideas and we all came up with this massive idea and pressed GO! I had made this beat in 20 minutes with a brilliant idea. I knew once we finished, I told everyone in the studio, “This will be the one with Shaboozey on it …. WATCH!” X instantly loved it when I played the track and Here we are! ‘I Hope You’re Happy!

As the album ‘Take Care’ sold over 1 million and its platinum, what were your thoughts on making the project?

Making ‘Take Care’ was pure fun! It gave me, X and other producers, who were heavily involved in this project, a chance to build a more of a bond and relationship. We generally take recording trips and just vibe out that way on some lowkey vibes and make our best music. You can hear through the whole project that we brought that out with restless nights and sharp minds.

When “The Largest” was played at Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour in her segment, what was your reaction when you had gotten a different audience producer wise?

I actually didn’t see it until I started getting tagged by Beyhive members who I personally know (lol). It was a really dope moment for me and all of us because that’s Beyoncé! We were all hype that she even knows our music. It was a standout moment for me and the team.

How did you approach blending hip-hop and country sounds in a way that still feels authentic to both genres?

It’s in my blood! I’ve been experiencing with different sounds for years now. When making country sounds was not hard for me because making music wasn’t hard for me. I can make any genre while having a certain style that I can adapt to or in almost any situation. I just kept style and put them country elements on top of it.

What was the biggest challenge in producing a country-rap record that still bangs for the streets?

It wasn’t a challenge at all. What people don’t know is that country artists listen to rap music all the time. Of course, we had thoughts of people thinking we’re stepping too far outside the box but Big X is a worldwide artist. He is heavily embraced and we never had a doubt it wouldn’t work!

Is there a particular track you’re most proud of — one that really shows your fingerprint?

Everything that I have ever produced or wrote musically is a proud moment for me! Let The BANDPLAY.
