2 Chainz is jumping into the world of filmmaking with his upcoming short film, “Red Clay.” The film, co-written with actor Omar Epps, offers a glimpse into life in 2003 Atlanta.

The trailer for “Red Clay” dropped recently, giving fans a sneak peek at the project. 2 Chainz shared the trailer, also teasing the release of the film’s soundtrack.

“Red Clay” tells the story of Nook, a teenager played by Christopher A’mmanuel. As he navigates a tough environment; the film explores his struggles to escape cycles of poverty and addiction, all while dealing with his mother’s substance abuse issues.

Christian Nolan Jones, known for his short film “Glitter Ain’t Gold,” directed “Red Clay.” The film also features Rutina Wesley and Jaylan Ragin in its cast. Both 2 Chainz and Omar Epps served as executive producers on the project.

2 Chainz has expressed how personal this project is to him. He stated that he always tries to empower people to overcome obstacles through his music, and “Red Clay” is an extension of that vision. He emphasizes the resilience of Atlanta and how important it was to bring the stories of Nook and Bub, everyday people fighting to survive, to life. He also called working with Omar Epps “truly legendary.”

Omar Epps shared his inspiration for writing the film, explaining that it came from a need to unpack difficult truths and showcase the complexities of why Black and brown communities normalize trauma. He hopes the film inspires conversations that lead to more understanding and compassion.

The “Red Clay” soundtrack promises to be just as impactful as the film itself, featuring artists like The Isley Brothers, Ne-Yo, and Lil Yachty. The soundtrack includes a new track titled “The ATL Experience” featuring 2 Chainz, Ronald Isley and The Isley Brothers. Check it out on the official YouTube page for 2 Chainz.

“Red Clay” has already premiered at the 2025 Atlanta Film Festival in May and is currently being submitted to other film festivals internationally.
