Sean “Diddy” Combs was found not guilty on the most serious charges in his federal sex crimes trial.

A jury decided he was not responsible for sex trafficking or racketeering, which could have led to decades in prison. However, the jury did find him guilty of two lesser charges—transporting women for prostitution. These two charges each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years, meaning he could still face up to 20 years total.

The case focused on Combs’ relationships with his ex-girlfriends, including singer Cassie Ventura, and a woman referred to as “Jane.” Prosecutors said Combs flew them and other sex workers across the country for group sex acts. The trial included claims that these events, sometimes called “freak offs,” happened in homes, hotels, and parties organized by Combs.

Some witnesses said they were coerced or pressured, while others admitted they agreed to take part for money. Combs’ lawyers argued that the sex was always consensual, even if the behavior was unusual or extreme. The jury agreed with the defense on the most serious charges but found enough evidence to convict on two counts.

Now, Combs is waiting to be sentenced.

He has been in jail since his arrest in September 2024 and may stay there. Prosecutors say he should remain in custody because he could be a danger to the public. They also pointed out that witnesses described years of abuse and violence by Combs. His lawyers disagree and say he should be released on bond until his sentence is decided. They have offered $1 million in bail and promised he will follow strict travel and drug rules.

A judge is expected to rule soon on whether Combs can go free while he waits for sentencing. Legal experts say he could get anywhere from 2 to 5 years, depending on the judge’s decision. The court will look at the facts of the case, the law, and how much time he has already served. Even though Combs avoided the most serious charges, the outcome still carries serious consequences. The trial was one of the biggest of the #MeToo era and brought renewed attention to power, consent, and abuse in the entertainment industry.
