Summer Jam 2025 Brought the Heat — And the History

Published

on

When it comes to kicking off summer in the tri-state area, few events can claim the legendary status of Hot 97’s Summer Jam — often called the “Super Bowl of Hip-Hop.” And this year, after a two-year pause, Summer Jam returned with a bang to the Prudential Center in Newark, reminding us why it’s the ultimate Hip-Hop party every June.

Celebrating its 31st year, Summer Jam has long been the place where magic happens — from surprise collaborations to stage moments that make headlines. The energy? Electric. The talent? Off the charts. The vibe? Unmatched.

Tribute to a Legend: Ja Rule & Friends Honor Irv Gotti

One of the night’s most unforgettable moments was Ja Rule’s dramatic tribute to the late Irv Gotti, the powerhouse behind Murder Inc.’s early 2000s hits. Cloaked in white and masked for suspense, Ja Rule’s voiceover set the tone: “Irv crafted the soundtrack to the 2000s.” When the mask came off, so did the hits — classics like “New York,” “I’m Real,” and “Always On Time” flooded the arena, with Jadakiss, Charlie Baltimore, and Lloyd joining the celebration.

Irv Gotti’s impact was palpable, and though he passed in February, his legacy burned bright on that stage.

Performances That Kept the Crowd Moving

The night was a rollercoaster of vibes. GloRilla brought playful energy, Muni Long slowed things down with smooth R&B vibes, and Jim Jones pumped up the crowd before an impromptu Meek Mill set lit the room on fire with “Dreams and Nightmares.”

Afobeats artists Asake, Ayra Starr and Diamond Platnumz added fresh, international flavor — Asake’s jazzy beats met Starr’s hypnotic rhythms, proving Summer Jam isn’t just local — it’s global.

Of course, A Boogie, Gunna, Kash Doll, Bobby Konders & Jabba ft. Masicka, Cash Cobain, and many more kept the crowd hyped well past midnight.

With over five hours of music, packed with iconic and rising stars, Summer Jam 2025 reminded us why it’s the heartbeat of Hip-Hop culture in New York and beyond.
