Prosecutors Seek to Revoke Young Thug’s Probation Over Social Media Posts

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to revoke Young Thug’s probation, as reported on Wednesday (April 3).

Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, wrapped up a lengthy criminal trial in October 2024 by pleading guilty to various charges. According to Billboard, the case was centered around Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) law, which accused him and his alleged YSL gang of serious crimes, including murder, carjacking, and drug trafficking.

After the trial, Thug received a 40-year sentence, with five years to be served in prison, which was reduced to time already served. He was then placed on 15 years of probation, with an additional 20 years potentially reduced if he successfully completes it.

However, a new motion in Fulton County Superior Court has prompted the State of Georgia to ask Judge Whitaker to revoke Thug’s probation. They argue that his ongoing presence in the community while on probation poses a significant threat to public safety and undermines the law.

According to Channel 2 Action News, the main issue in the motion involves what prosecutors describe as “escalating threats and witness intimidation.” They highlight that Fulton County Investigator Marissa Viverito is currently testifying in a “multi-defendant gang murder preliminary hearing,” where the court has ordered that witnesses not be shown on TV during their testimonies. Despite this, someone on social media shared a photo of Viverito with the caption, “She doesn’t want to be shown on screen? Well, here she is.”

On Tuesday (April 1), Thug reportedly shared a now-deleted repost of that image, adding a caption that called Viverito “the biggest liar in the DA’s office.” The filing claims that the post “quickly went viral,” garnering over two million views and leading to “direct threats to Investigator Viverito and her family.”

The filing claims that Thug’s post led to the online sharing of Vivirito and her parents’ addresses. One post allegedly showed a picture of Vivirito’s mother’s house stating, “If the hate is really real then pull up on her mama crib.” Another post reportedly threatened the assassination of District Attorney Fani Willis.

The filing emphasized that shifting from targeting a witness to threatening an elected District Attorney is “a grave and unprecented” attack on the justice system.

In response to the probation revocation request, Thug tweeted, “I don’t make treats to people I’m a good person, I would never condone anyone threatening anyone or definitely participate in threatening anyone. I’m all about peace and love.”

The filing describes the actions as a “deliberate campaign of intimidation, harassment, and misinformation” aimed at disrupting the legal process, urging the Court to revoke Thug’s probation and place him in custody immediately.

Currently, no hearing date has been set, but Thug is scheduled to perform at Chicago’s Summer Smash Festival in June, marking his first performance since the trial.
