Watch DaBaby Navigate Tough Calls With UPROXX’s ‘Sound Check’ New Episode

8x Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artist DaBaby sat in the hot seat on UPROXX’s new segment ‘Sound Check’ for a 12-round interview testing his music taste from older to newer songs like “Mask Off” by Future. This is fresh off the heels of his upcoming tour, ‘Spring Semester’ making a stop at eight universities aligning with March Madness. DaBaby recently dropped IMA HOE TOO  with Yung Miami and is set to hit major stages in 2025, including the Midwest Springfest Music Festival and Master P’s Birthday Bash. He’s also confirmed as a guest performer at Sexxy Red’s concert in Knoxville, TN on May 2nd. 

Throughout the interview, Hecht sets the stage with a carefully curated playlist—ranging from melodic themes like New York Anthems to Lover Boy songs—before presenting DaBaby with two legendary hip-hop staples to choose from. Among the toughest matchups, he presented with his favorite and fellow rappers’ discography including 50 Cent’s club classic In Da Club versus Nelly’s feel-good hit Ride Wit Me. These thought-provoking pairings not only test DaBaby’s instincts but also offer fans a rare glimpse into his musical influences and decision-making process.

During a key moment, DaBaby is asked to choose between two of his own tracks, In A Minute and Intro, and reflect on which was harder to write. Without hesitation, he points to Intro. He further explains how In A Minute was also therapeutic to write —“It was more reflective,” he explains. “I sat back and looked at my journey.” The response offers a rare glimpse into his creative process, showing how deeply he taps into personal experiences.
