In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lil’ Kim honored the late Voletta Wallace, mother of The Notorious B.I.G.

Sharing a collection of photos and videos of their time together, according to Complex, Lil’ Kim reflected on her bond with Wallace, who sadly passed away last month at 72 years of age. “Over the last 9-10 years, we really worked on our relationship, which, if you know our story, is truly a blessing,” she shared. “The last 4-5 years were especially meaningful because we started chatting at least once a month, then it turned into weekly calls, and eventually 2-3 times a week. You would send me lovely pictures of yourself and updates about your garden, which had become your passion. The flowers and crops you planted were thriving, except for those pesky peonies sometimes.”

Lil’ Kim was discovered by Wallace’s son in the early ’90s and had a close bond with him until his passing in 1997.

“Everyone who was close to u called u Meema but I called u mommy like a second mom,” she continued. “Which is why the 11th photo is very special to me because that was the day u showed me ur phone and u said ‘look what I have u saved as,’ I said, ‘what?’ U said, ‘daughter’ I smiled so big it warmed my heart and u began to call me daughter all the time after that. Our conversations got more intense, u kept saying we need to spend time in person. U wanted me to come to the house, I couldn’t wait to do that, especially since it’s been awhile since I’ve been there.”

Kim had mentioned that the two had plans to meet up shortly before Wallace’s death. “This hits different because there’s no hurt and sadness like the hurt and sadness when u crave conversation from someone who is no longer here,” she wrote. “I’m smiling to myself because I can hear u saying ‘MY GOD CHRISTOPHER!! Put that smoke down!!’ It makes the sadness a little better knowing that you’re reunited with the other half of ur heart. Rest in heaven Meema We lost a phenomenal strong Queen but we gained a beautiful warrior angel.”
