Jadakiss Advocates for Rappers To Embrace Originality Over Trends

Jadakiss is speaking some real truths. The Yonkers legend is pushing for a change in hip-hop, urging artists to ditch the old formulas and trends and tap into their own creative vibes.

In a recent chat, according to The Source, on Carmelo Anthony’s 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast, which dropped on February 20, Jadakiss expressed his views on the current hip-hop scene, calling it “diluted.” He highlighted Kendrick Lamar as a standout artist who’s made his mark by staying authentic to his art.

“It’s all about balance. Some dudes can rap and sing. Some should just rap,” Kiss explained. “Some should do something else. But rap is for rapping. If you start doing everything, you’re moving away from the elements and hurting the culture. We don’t need 53 more Not Like Us tracks.’”

Jadakiss also cautioned against trying to copy someone else’s success. He recognized the achievements of artists like Kendrick Lamar, who’s racked up Grammys and had a Super Bowl moment, but emphasized that imitating their style won’t get you far. “That got him five Grammys and a Super Bowl moment, but when you create, don’t try to make that,” he advised. “Too many people hit up the producer, trying to get the same beat. It never works.”

On top of his hip-hop insights, Jadakiss is making strides in the business world with his coffee brand. He’s got plans for a physical location for his Kiss Café, which he started in 2022 with his dad and son. In a December 2 Instagram post, 50 Cent shared the Kiss Café logo and showed his enthusiasm for a potential collaboration in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he recently opened G-Unit Film & TV Studios.

In response, Jadakiss sounded hopeful but mentioned that things are still in the planning stages, saying, “@50cent I’m waiting on YOU.” For now, you can grab the coffee and merch online.
