Detroit rapper Dank Demoss is speaking out after a Lyft driver allegedly denied her a ride due to her size, prompting a lawsuit against the company.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Demoss—whose real name is Dajua Blanding—shared her experience, calling it a first for her.
“I always order the regular cars. I don’t have to order an Uber or Lyft XL,” she explained. She added, “I don’t have a big person’s mindset, I’m skinny in my head.”
Addressing the emotional toll of her story going viral, she remained unfazed.
“I’ve been going through this all my life. I don’t feel like I need to overstimulate myself with the comments or respond. I have very tough skin,” she said.
As for the impact on her music career, Demoss sees a silver lining.
“I am going wherever God takes me. It helped my streaming.”
The incident occurred earlier this month when she requested a Lyft to attend a Detroit Lions watch party. Upon arrival, the driver allegedly refused to give her a ride, citing concerns about his car’s tires handling the weight. She recorded the exchange, telling the driver, “I can fit in this car,” to which he responded by apologizing and suggesting she order an Uber XL instead.
While Lyft has since reached out to apologize, Demoss has enlisted attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan to file a lawsuit against the company for discrimination.
