Kanye Credits Wife Bianca Censori with Helping Him Identify His Autism
Ye recently appeared on The Download podcast with Justin LaBoy, where he talked about his mental health journey. During the chat, the Vultures rapper rejected a past diagnosis in favor of a new one, a change he states was prompted by his wife, Bianca Censori.
“My wife took me to get checked out because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar, I’ve seen bipolar before,’” the Chicago native explained, as reported by E! News. “And come to find out, it’s really a case of autism that I have.”
He went on to share how he thinks this condition affects his actions.
“You’re like, ‘Oh man, I’m gonna wear this [Donald] Trump hat ‘cause I just like Trump in general,” shared Ye. “And when people tell you to not do it…and that’s my problem, when fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I’ll do it the opposite way.”
When asked about medication, according to VIBE, the “Jesus Walks” rapper confirmed he stopped taking his prescription for the now-rejected bipolar diagnosis.
“I haven’t taken the medication since I found out it wasn’t bipolar, that it wasn’t the right diagnosis,” the Donda rapper shared. “It’s finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity, obviously that’s what I bring to the world. It’s worth the ramp up, as long as y’all get the creativity.”
In a 2018 interview, Ye mentioned that he wasn’t “diagnosed” with a mental condition until he was about 39, insisting that his bipolar disorder is “not a disability, it’s a superpower,” according to Billboard.
