Nelly, born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., is facing backlash after agreeing to perform at President Trumps inauguration on January 20, ironically MLK Day.

In an interview released by Willie D the Texas-born rapper expressed his thoughts about the backlash he is facing by fans. The rapper says he isn’t doing this for money but simply because he “respect the office” and “its an honor”. He compares it to soldiers who fight in war despite whose in office.

“I did not know you was riding with me cause you thought I would ride for who you voted for.”

Nelly says he thought fans was riding with him because he puts on for his city and tries to bring his city up every step of the way. The rapper goes on to say that this is not a political campaign this is the outcome. He states that he did not get part of the money that was shelled out when candidates allegedly were paying celebrities to come and support.

Fans are now attacking Ashanti since Nelly and her are married. A user on X, formerly known as Twitter, said “I lost all respect Nelly, Ashanti, Snopp Dogg and Christte they are dumb, dumber, and stupid.” Another user says “Nelly and Ashanti over there raising a Trump-Loving infant and its just very sad.”
