Brooklyn-born popstar Aaliyah who passed away on August 25 in the Bahamas in a deadly plane crash was celebrated by Mattel on her 46 birthday.

In celebration of the “Are You That Somebody” singer birthday Mattel paid homage with a stunning new doll. As part of their growing Music Collector series, the world famous brand honored the late singer’s undeniable talent and fashion that helped shaped the 90’s.

The Aaliyah Barbie is inspired by the hit single “One in a Million”. The doll is dressed in the signature black faux leather two piece worn in the video. The doll sports her deep side-part bang hairstyle that covers one side of her eye from the video.

“I can vividly remember my sister playing with her favorite Barbie dolls for hours when we were kids.”

Mattel worked closely with Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah’s brother, to develop the concept for the doll and ensure the results were true to her legacy and persona. In a statement Haughton expressed watching his sister playing with dolls growing up. He stated “It’s clear to me now that she was imagining dreams that would eventually become reality when she embarked on a career in entertainment at just fifteen years old.”

The doll will be available for January 26, but is currently on Target for presale.
