Lil Baby Denies Dissing Gunna on WHAM Deluxe Track “Runnin’ This Shit”
Lil Baby has addressed speculation that he took shots at Gunna on his WHAM deluxe track “Runnin’ This Shit,” denying that his lyrics were aimed at the rapper. Speaking with Complex about his latest album, the Atlanta star dismissed the rumors, which have been swirling since Gunna faced allegations of snitching following his plea deal in the YSL RICO case.
“That’s Just How I Rap”
When questioned about the song’s pointed lyrics, Lil Baby was quick to clarify.
“That’s just how I rap,” he explained. “I hate that they try to make narratives out of shit I say. I say what I want to say. If I was speaking on certain people and shit, I would say that.”
The specific lyrics in question—“I don’t care what he did, he a rat still / And I said what I said, don’t at me”—led fans to interpret the lines as a jab at Gunna. The speculation is rooted in their past collaborations and the fallout following Gunna’s legal troubles.
A History of Tension
Lil Baby’s denial hasn’t erased public perception of animosity between the two rappers. On a leaked snippet of an unreleased track from 2023, Baby appeared to reference Gunna’s plea deal, rapping:
“Pussy n-ggas taking pleas / I know Slime ain’t happy.”
Additionally, during a live performance, Lil Baby seemingly called Gunna a “rat” when their hit song “Drip Too Hard” began playing, instructing the DJ to turn it off with the words,
“Fuck the rats, turn this shit off.”
In a more recent interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Lil Baby confirmed that his relationship with Gunna has ended. “We don’t got no relationship. Nope,” he said bluntly when asked about a potential reunion with his former collaborator.
Gunna’s Legal Defense
Despite the lingering animosity, Gunna’s former lawyer, Steve Sadow, has firmly defended the rapper against snitching allegations. In a lengthy social media post, Sadow clarified the details of Gunna’s plea deal, emphasizing that his actions did not harm Young Thug or his case.
“Gunna did NOT cooperate, and did NOTHING and said NOTHING to cause harm to Thug’s case,” Sadow wrote. “He entered an Alford plea, which does not admit guilt but acknowledges the evidence against him.”
Sadow added that Gunna was never named as a witness in the trial and received a five-year suspended sentence with no probation, travel, or living restrictions. “Over the last two years, he has performed all over the world, achieved international fame, and earned millions of dollars,” the attorney noted.
The State of Their Relationship
While Lil Baby denies any direct shots at Gunna on “Runnin’ This Shit,” the strained relationship between the two remains evident. As fans dissect the lyrics and public comments, it’s clear that reconciliation is unlikely anytime soon, with both artists moving forward on separate paths in their careers.
For now, Lil Baby is focused on his latest album, while Gunna continues to rebuild his reputation amid ongoing controversy. Whether or not the two will ever mend fences remains to be seen.
