Victory Boyd, a Roc Nation-signed musician, filed a copyright infringement complaint on January, 8 claiming SZA, Travis and Future used aspects of her song without her permission.

The song in question is the trio’s 2023 collaboration “Telekinesis” which Boyd says copies her 2019 track “Like the Way It Sounds” without her permission. The lawsuit names companies Cactus Jack Records, LLC, Cactus Jack Publishing, LLC, Epic Records, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing, and Audemars Piguet as defendants. With songwriters Jamal Gain, Jahaan Sweet, Nima Jahnbin, and Edgar Panford as well as several other John Does as defendants.

The complaint states “Scott, SZA, Future, and all defendants intentionally and willfully copied plaintiffs’ original work, specifically plaintiff’s lyrics, when they commercially released the infringing work,”.

Boyd claims that she shared her single with Kanye West and recorded a version of the track named “Ultrasounds” with him that she believes was shared with Scott, despite never being released. Boyd continues saying that Travis “intentionally and willfully copied her song” when he teamed up with SZA and Future.

Victory alleges she never allowed their collaboration featuring elements of her original work to be released on Scott’s album, Utopia. The complaint states her music was left in a Wyoming studio where Travis supposedly copied the song.

She says that she is credited as a song writer on the single but was unaware the track would be “copied and commercially released” by the trio. Allegedly, Boyd planned to release her version of the song with Roc Nation.

Boyd is claiming that luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet collaborated with the trio on an ad campaign. In which “Telekinesis” was featured despite Boyd not granting permission to use her allegedly infringed work.

Victory is asking all defendants named in the suit to “recall and destroy” all copies of music that stemmed from her original work. As well as payments in “an amount to be determined at trail in actual damages and profits, plus interest.”

She is also seeking “full and complete accounting of all profits obtained from their marketing, distribution, and national television broadcasting” of the single.
