Selena Quintanilla Killer Files for 2025 Parole
Yolanda Saldívar was convicted of killing Selena Quintanilla in 1995 after fatally shooting the 23-year-old in her hotel room.
Saldívar, who initially disliked Quintanilla, became an avid fan of the singer after attending her concert in mid-1991. After failing to find a souvenir from the show, Yolanda decided to start a fan club for the singer. By June 1991, Saldívar had become the founder and acting president of the San Antonio fan club.
As president of the club, Yolanda was responsible for membership benefits and collecting $22 in exchange for products promoting Selena. After a meeting in December 1991, the pair became close friends. By 1994, Saldívar had signed up 8,000 fans and subsequently gave up her career as an in-house nurse to work full-time alongside
After opening two boutiques in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, Selena and her family allowed Yolanda to become a registered agent on behalf of the business. This gave her access to bank accounts and the ability to write and cash checks. Over time, associates, employees, and family members began to worry about the mishandling of funds.
By 1995, business associates discovered that more than $60,000 had been embezzled through forged checks from the fan club and boutiques. The family of the “Dreaming of You” singer believes Yolanda attempted to murder Selena four times prior to the fatal incident. On March 31, 1995, Selena took her last breath after being fatally shot at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Saldívar is currently serving a life sentence for the murder but is seeking release. According to the New York Post, paperwork has been filed to attempt to secure Yolanda’s release on parole next year. The report claims that inmates have stated she has “a bounty on her head” behind bars.
A Texas Department of Criminal Justice representative made it clear that the 64-year-old has no disciplinary marks on her record that would prevent the board from holding a hearing in March.
