Joey Bada$$ Receives Special Recognition with His Own Day from NYC Mayor
Joey Bada$$ earns his own day in New York serving as a significant life milestone.
Few individuals in the hip-hop community embody moral integrity as much as Joey Bada$$. Throughout his notable works, particularly in ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, he has consistently served as a powerful advocate against the various injustices prevalent in America. Joey, according to HotNewHipHop, has also made substantial contributions to the community, exemplified by the establishment of his ImpactMENtorship Program two years ago. This initiative offers free mentorship to men of color aged 18 and older across the United States, including Puerto Rico. The program’s mission is rooted in the belief that mentorship can pave the way to professional and financial independence, with confidence being one of the most valuable assets provided to the mentees.
Joey is optimistic about the program’s long-term success, expressing his aspirations to REVOLT earlier this year. He stated, “My dream is for these guys to continue to take these gems they learn, these connections they’ve gotten through this program, and to take it to the moon. I’m trying to make a path for those who otherwise wouldn’t have one. I didn’t have a mentor outside of my parental unit or the people who were in my everyday life.”
His commitment to this cause has not gone unnoticed. Recently, New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams, proclaimed December 20 as Joey Bada$$ Day. This announcement was made during the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development’s second annual Hip-Hop Holiday Giveaway, an event aimed at spreading holiday joy to those in need while underscoring Joey’s significance to the city. The event saw the attendance of notable figures such as La La Anthony, SAINt JHN, Sleepy Hallow, and Sheff G. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to a special dinner at the renowned restaurant Tatiana’s, where DYCD Commissioner Keith Howard expressed excitement about honoring the artist. “We are thrilled to honor artist Joey Bada$$ for his commitment to DYCD and youth, and his ImpactMENtorship program.”
In addition, Joey Bada$$ is actively broadening his creative and intellectual endeavors beyond his community outreach efforts. He has recently completed an artist residency at the Clive Davis Institute at NYU Tisch and has been named the youngest inaugural artist scholar in residence at Columbia University’s Teachers College for 2025.
