DDG’s choice of gift for his son Halo’s first birthday has sparked online criticism, with many questioning his parenting decisions. Over the weekend, the rapper and YouTuber shared a video on social media showing him gifting Halo a red Ferrari sports car.

Given Halo’s age and inability to drive, the extravagant present was met with a wave of negative reactions. One user commented, “This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen,” while another added, “This dude always amazes me with the levels of LAMENESS he possesses!!”

Some accused DDG of making the gift more about himself than his child. “Me expecting a power wheel [unamused face emoji]. Wtf is the baby going to do with this? Just say you bought yourself a gift for your baby’s birthday,” one person wrote. Another echoed, “I thought they meant a toy car… so basically he got himself a car.”

The gift was just one aspect of Halo’s first birthday celebration, which also featured a public reunion between DDG and his ex-girlfriend, Halle Bailey. The former couple, who co-parent Halo, came together for the party despite their split earlier this year. Halle serenaded their son by singing “Happy Birthday” in front of attendees, marking a touching moment during the festivities.

Both DDG and Halle posted individual birthday tributes to Halo on social media. Halle wrote,

“365 days ago my baby came. Can’t believe he’s 1!! Will post more later today,” while DDG shared, “THE BEST BABY IN THE WORLD JUST TURNED 1!”

This isn’t the first time DDG’s parenting has been criticized. Last month, Halle expressed her frustration after DDG took their son on Kai Cenat’s livestream without informing her.

“Hi everyone, just so you know I am out of town, and I don’t approve of my baby being on a stream tonight,” Halle wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I wasn’t told or notified, and I am extremely upset to have my baby in front of millions of people. I am his mother and protector and saddened that I wasn’t notified, especially when I am out of town.”

She later added:

“[As] a woman experiencing severe postpartum, there are boundaries that I wish to be respected. Nobody knows what someone is going through until they snap.”

While Halle’s comments received criticism from some DDG fans, the rapper supported her stance as they navigated their separation and co-parenting journey.
