Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley File for Divorce After Eight Years Together
Chance the Rapper and wife Kirsten Corley are officially calling it quits.
Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley are officially ending their marriage. On Friday, Dec. 13, Corley filed for divorce from the 31-year-old artist, according to court records reviewed by PEOPLE. The filing comes eight months after the couple publicly announced their separation.
“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the pair shared in a joint Instagram statement back in April. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”
Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, and Corley share two daughters: Kensli, 9, and Marli, 5. While the divorce filing did not address child support, the couple previously emphasized their commitment to co-parenting, stating,
“God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together.”
Their love story began when Chance first met Corley at just nine years old during an office party with his mother. They reconnected years later at the South by Southwest festival in 2012 and began dating shortly after. In 2015, they welcomed their first child, Kensli, though their relationship faced challenges. Corley briefly filed for child support in 2016, but the couple reconciled in early 2017.
The duo’s relationship blossomed in the years that followed. Chance proposed in 2018 at a Fourth of July party, sharing the news on social media with, “She said yes 🔗.” The couple tied the knot in March 2019 in a star-studded Newport Beach ceremony attended by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Dave Chappelle.
Later that year, they welcomed their second daughter, Marli, with Chance postponing parts of his tour to focus on fatherhood. Reflecting on his family in a heartfelt Instagram post, he wrote, “As a husband and father of two, I realize I can’t make the mistake of missing these early moments again.”
In an April 2020 interview, Chance described the joy of spending quality time with his daughters during the pandemic. “They make me laugh so often,” he said, sharing how their family bond was filled with games, dancing, and cartoons.
Now, as they navigate this new chapter, Chance and Corley remain committed to raising their daughters together, prioritizing their roles as parents above all.
