Lil Wayne Encourages Kendrick Lamar to ‘Kill It’ for the Superbowl Performance
Lil Wayne has revealed that he recently had a conversation with Kendrick Lamar, offering him encouragement ahead of his performance at the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.
In a recent interview with Skip Bayless, the 42-year-old artist expressed his feelings about not being selected to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown of New Orleans, where Kendrick will take the stage instead.
At around the 45-second mark in the video, per Complex, Wayne shared that while the decision is out of his hands, he sees it as a source of motivation to elevate his craft to a level where his selection becomes inevitable.
“I want to reach a point where I’m undeniable,” Wayne stated. “I want them to enter the room with ten other options, and the decision-makers say, ‘No, he’s the one we need.’”
Bayless took the chance to reference lyrics from Kendrick’s track “wacced out murals,” the opening song from his new album, GNX, which Wayne admitted he had not yet heard.
On the record, Kendrick raps, “I used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”
“That was my first time hearing it,” Wayne told Bayless. “I think he’s a fan, like I’m a fan of his music … He saw with everybody else. He saw how much it meant to me, I think that’s all he means.”
Wayne added, “Obviously he can’t control that, you know? So he didn’t let me down. It ain’t like he can control it or nothing. And also I’ve spoken to him and I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it.”
It remains unclear whether Wayne and Lamar spoke before or after the release of “wacced out murals.” However, the day following the track’s debut, Wayne posted a cryptic message on his X account that many interpreted as a response to Kendrick.
“Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love,” Wayne wrote via X.
Bayless also did not mention other lines from Kendrick’s song, which included, “Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me, all these n***as agitated / I’m just glad it’s on their faces.”
Additionally, Wayne dismissed any rumors regarding a potential surprise appearance during Kendrick’s halftime show, stating, “I’m not gonna even be in the country.”
Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
