Beyoncé Shares Emotional Moment Watching Blue Ivy Voice Kiara in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’
“I can’t help it. You’re just too beautiful, girl.” Beyoncé says to Blue Ivy
Blue Ivy Carter is aiming to inspire Black and brown women everywhere with her portrayal of Kiara in Mufasa: The Lion King. Following her and Beyoncé’s appearance at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Good Morning America aired behind-the-scenes footage on Tuesday (Dec. 10) of the mother-daughter duo recording their lines.
“Don’t stare at me,” Blue Ivy said playfully, as Beyoncé responded, “I can’t help it. You’re just too beautiful, girl.” The March 2023 footage captured the emotional moment, with Beyoncé even wiping tears from her eyes. “Give me a second. I can’t believe that’s my baby. That’s so amazing,” she said.
Reflecting on the experience, Beyoncé shared how seeing Blue Ivy bring Kiara to life left her momentarily speechless.
“Seeing Blue as Kiara and hearing her voice come out of that character… it was really hard to focus and do my job after that,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Hold up, guys. Y’all have to give me a second.’ I have to digest that.”
Blue Ivy also opened up about her experience working on the film. “It’s just a really amazing experience, and I feel like everybody [who is] a part of this is so helpful and supportive,” she said. Praising director Barry Jenkins, she added, “He’s very sweet and tells me ways I can improve. He’s very supportive and tells me in the nicest way possible.”
Expressing pride in her role, Blue Ivy shared,
“I’m just really happy for [the] girls that look like me all around the world [to be] able to watch this movie and hear and see themselves in it.”
In the video, Beyoncé marveled at her daughter’s natural talent. “I can’t believe how much [of] a natural [Blue Ivy] is,” she said, referencing her daughter’s show-stopping performances during the Renaissance World Tour.
Mufasa: The Lion King is set to hit theaters on Dec. 20.
