NLE Choppa Announces R&B Album for End of 2024

NLE Choppa is switching gears and diving into the R&B world for his next project. Over the weekend, the Memphis rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his plans for a genre-bending release by the end of the year.

Choppa wrote on Saturday (November 30), signaling a fresh creative direction.

The upcoming R&B album will follow Slut SZN, which dropped in September alongside Choppa’s self-produced and directed remake of the 2001 cult classic The Wash. The project was a bold move for the 21-year-old artist, showcasing his ability to juggle music and film.

NLE Choppa Presents: The Wash featured cameos from Lil Wayne, Sukihana, JP, and popular social media influencers. The film, directed alongside Ben Marc, was fully improvised, adding a unique twist to its production.

Choppa’s announcement caps a year of achievements, but it hasn’t been without controversy. In September, he expressed frustration after being left off Complex’s list of the “20 Best Rappers in Their 20s.”

In a six-minute rant, Choppa addressed the omission, stating,

“Whoever made that Complex list, I just want to let you know something: your ass need to go do rock and roll or some other s***.”

Despite his disappointment, he clarified he wasn’t discrediting anyone on the list, which included names like Lil Uzi Vert, GloRilla, and Playboi Carti.

Choppa defended his standing by pointing to his accomplishments:

• Certifications: “Eighteen platinum [plaques], six or seven gold… Go look at the certifications.”
• Touring Success: “Sold out shows everywhere: America, Europe, Australia, Canada.”
• Age: “I’m 21, bro. Who did what I did at 21?”
