Trey Songz Ordered to Pay Over $11 Million in Civil Battery Case Following 2021 Incident
Once again, Trigga finds himself in some hot water.
Trey Songz, the R&B singer known for hits like “Bottoms Up,” has been ordered to pay over $11 million in a civil battery case connected to a 2021 altercation involving Maryland Capitol police officer Tyrelle Dunn.
The incident occurred in November 2021 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas during Songz’s 37th birthday celebration. According to court filings, Dunn claimed he was injured while attempting to assist his wife, who was in Songz’s hotel room with other women. She allegedly screamed for help, stating she was being held against her will.
Dunn rushed to intervene but was reportedly attacked by Songz and his security team. The altercation left Dunn with severe injuries, including fractured eye sockets and scars, which caused him to miss work.
While Songz was cleared of criminal charges in April 2022, Dunn pursued a civil lawsuit alleging negligence. He sought compensation for medical bills, pain, suffering, and punitive damages. Court documents indicate Songz did not respond to the lawsuit, leading to a default judgment in favor of Dunn.
A Las Vegas judge awarded over $11 million to Dunn, citing the severity of his injuries and losses.
This case adds to a series of legal troubles that have plagued Songz’s career in recent years. The singer has faced various allegations and controversies that have overshadowed his music. As of now, Songz has not commented on the judgment or disclosed plans to appeal the ruling.
This latest development underscores the ongoing impact of the 2021 incident and the broader challenges facing the artist’s public and professional image.
