Kendrick Lamar Reacts to Drake’s Livestream Comments
The war between Kendrick Lamar and Drake is starting to heat up in real time.
Kendrick Lamar has responded to Drake’s recent livestream appearance, where the Canadian rapper reignited their ongoing feud by taking subtle shots at Kendrick and others. During the livestream with Canadian streamer xQc on Kick, Drake addressed various rivals, introducing himself with a pointed comment that seemed directed at Lamar.
“I’m here — mind, body, and soul fully intact, in case you were wondering. You need facts to take me out; fairytales won’t do it,” Drake said.
This statement appeared to reference allegations Kendrick has alluded to in past diss tracks, including accusations against Drake’s character and personal life.
Drake didn’t stop there, throwing shade at Steve Lacy by calling him a “fragile” opponent and asking xQc to skip The Weeknd’s 2016 hit Starboy when it began playing during the stream.
Kendrick’s Lighthearted Response
Kendrick Lamar’s reaction came via text messages with his friend Reli, who shared screenshots of their conversation on Instagram Stories. In the exchange, Reli teased Kendrick, saying: “You done turned blood into a streamer on Phillies [laughing emojis],” to which Kendrick replied with a series of laughing emojis himself.
When asked if Drake was “trippin,” Reli responded: “Blood don’t want no smoke Philly gang,” before censoring part of his message.
A Tense Backdrop to GNX
The tension between the two rap heavyweights comes on the heels of Kendrick’s surprise album GNX, released November 22. The 12-track project features several subliminal jabs at Drake, including on the opening track, wacced out murals, where Kendrick raps:
“N-ggas from my city couldn’t entertain old boy / Promisin’ bank transactions and even bitcoin / I never peaced it up, that shit don’t sit well with me / Before I take a truce, I’ll take ’em to Hell with me.”
Kendrick also alludes to Drake’s Taylor Made Freestyle and Snoop Dogg’s apparent endorsement of it:
“Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles / I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go.”
Snoop Dogg responded humorously on social media, writing: “K Dot new album GNX [explosion and fire emojis]. It was the edibles [facepalm emoji, grinning emoji, fist bump emoji]. West west king.”
The Kendrick-Drake Rivalry Continues
While Kendrick’s recent response has been measured and playful, their rivalry remains one of the most captivating in modern hip-hop. As GNX continues to make waves, fans will be keeping a close eye on whether Drake delivers another round in their lyrical sparring.
