Rema Announced to Perform at Coachella 2025
Nigerian superstar Rema has officially been added to the lineup for the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California next April. This will serve as the afrobeats star debut Coachella appearance.
Rema whose real name is Divine Ikubor was born in Nigeria on May 1, 2000. He rose to fame after posting a freestyle online to D’Prince song “Gucci Gang”. D’Prince then flew the young star to Lagos and offered him a record deal with Jonzing World. In 2019, Rema released his self-titled debut EP which topped the Apple Music’s Nigerian charts.
The “Calm Down” artist continued to see success early within his career. His breakout single “Dumbei” from the EP has received 75 million views on Youtube and featured a cameo from Diana Eneje. His song “Iron Man” made it on to Barack Obama’s annual summer playlist. By 2020, Rema’s songs were included on the FIFA 21 official soundtrack.
In March 2022, Rema debuted his first album Rave & Roses which featured sixteen tracks. The album contained collaborations from artist like 6lack, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult. Within its debut week the album charted ten singles on the US Billboard Afrobeats. The breakout single “Calm Down” received international success and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 after a remix with Selena Gomez.
The Nigerian artist released his sophomore studio album in July of 2024 titled Heis. It’s believed the album titled was derived from the greek word numeral one. The album included producers like Cuebeatz, Deats, Klimperboy, London, and many more. It consisted of eleven tracks and featured collaborations from ODUMODUBLVCK and Shallipopi.
Rema has been praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, and more indicating that the 24 year old star is here to stay. Rema is one of the few afrobeats artist bringing the genre global success and shows no signs of stopping.
