Boyz II Men are preparing to share their iconic journey in a biopic and an accompanying documentary. The legendary R&B group has partnered with Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave to produce a narrative feature film and a long-form documentary covering their 30-year career, as confirmed by Variety on November 14.

Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris will serve as executive producers for the biopic, ensuring their story is told authentically.

Bringing the Story to Life

In a statement, Nathan Morris shared the group’s enthusiasm for the project, saying,

“We’ve been waiting to find the right partners who understand our story and are willing to tell it all. Denis and Jeff at Compelling Pictures understood us day 1.”

The film is currently in the early stages of development, with discussions underway to bring in writers and directors. However, producers are “fast-tracking” the process to bring the project to audiences soon.

Producers Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri expressed their excitement:

“Having grown up as huge fans of Boyz II Men, and having spent the past couple of years getting to know the guys, it’s a tremendous honor to help bring their unique and untold story to the big screen.”

They added,

“We’re excited to show the brotherhood and camaraderie, as well as the challenges, humor, and heartbreak, behind the unparalleled success that Nate, Shawn, Wanya, and Mike have worked so hard to achieve.”

A Rivalry Rooted in Talent

The group’s rise to fame even caught the attention of Questlove and Black Thought of The Roots, who attended high school with Boyz II Men. Questlove recalled the group harmonizing in the school bathroom and competing against them in talent shows. “Our rivals wound up being Boyz II Men,” Black Thought shared, adding, “The talent shows were huge.”

Questlove humorously noted the group’s use of glitter and top hats to sway audiences, saying, “Girls would start swooning. They used to cheat with glitter.”
