Stevie J Opens Up About Confronting Diddy Over Cassie Assault Video
Bad Boy associate and former Hitmen super producer Stevie J finally breaks his silence amid Diddy’s troubled woes.
Stevie J has shared details about a heartfelt conversation he had with Diddy following the leak of security footage from 2016 showing Diddy assaulting Cassie. Speaking in TMZ’s documentary, The Downfall of Diddy: Inside the Freak-Offs, Stevie J reflected on how the video, which surfaced years after the incident, deeply affected both himself and the Bad Boy mogul.
Stevie J recounted his reaction to the shocking footage and the emotional conversation he later had with Diddy.
“After I saw the video, I went and saw him in Miami, and we had a conversation,” he said. “I let him know how affected I was by that. I didn’t know he had that in him to do that.”
"He was doing a lot of drugs."

The former Hitmen producer described the moment as emotional, explaining how he confronted Diddy about the disappointment it caused.
“He was hurt that that video came out. It crushed him because he was like, ‘My daughters and my mom gotta see this.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, and your friends gotta see it too!’”
When pressed by TMZ’s Harvey Levin about whether Diddy was more upset about his actions or the public exposure, Stevie J replied:
“I believe both hurt him. He couldn’t believe that was the darkest point in his life, and he had to re-live that and see it again.”
In the aftermath of the leaked footage, Diddy issued a since-deleted apology video on Instagram. He called the incident a reflection of his darkest times and took full accountability for his actions.
“I was messed up — I hit rock bottom — but I make no excuses,” he said. “My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions… I’m disgusted.”
Diddy revealed that he sought therapy and rehab after the incident and committed to personal growth.
“I’m truly sorry,” he added. “But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day.”
The attack, captured on hotel security footage, took place on March 5, 2016, in Los Angeles. The video shows Diddy grabbing Cassie by the neck, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her repeatedly. The disturbing footage, which resurfaced in 2024, reignited public discourse about Diddy’s alleged history of abuse.
Cassie previously sued Diddy for sexual assault and sex trafficking in 2023, further intensifying scrutiny of his behavior. Although Diddy initially denied the claims, the video evidence marked a turning point, forcing the music mogul to confront his actions publicly.
Diddy’s legacy continues to face challenges in light of these revelations. The assault video, coupled with testimonies of past abusive behavior, has led to growing criticism of his conduct and questions about accountability in the entertainment industry. For Stevie J, the incident was a stark reminder of the complexities behind the personas of his idols, as he reflected,
“He was in a dark place, as he described to me, and he was doing a lot of drugs.”
As the conversation around the video continues, it underscores the importance of addressing abuse and fostering change, both within the music industry and beyond.
