Vybz Kartel Engaged to Longtime Girlfriend Following Prison Release
Vybz Kartel proposes to his longtime girlfriend, who held him down while he was incarcerated.
Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel is officially engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Sidem Öztürk, months after his release from prison. Sharing the emotional moment on Instagram on Tuesday (November 5), Kartel, known for hits like “Summertime,” expressed deep gratitude to Öztürk, who supported him through his years of incarceration.
“It’s Official #1Wife,” Kartel wrote in his post. “I Proposed in Prison, Proposed in #RealLife. You were there when I needed you most, and I’ll never leave you baby… I cherish all the times you came to visit me and told me that it’s going to be ok.”
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Azim Palmer, was sentenced to life in 2014 for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams but was released earlier this year after serving 13 years. Since his release, he’s been focusing on his health, including managing Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition he publicly discussed with Fox 5 New York’s Lisa Evers. “The feeling of being free is just amazing,” he said, adding that he’s committed to staying healthy.
While in prison, Kartel faced severe health issues and was kept in solitary confinement for up to 23 hours daily, leading his attorney to advocate for medical intervention. His release was celebrated across the music industry, with Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Busta Rhymes among those who showed support.
As Kartel embarks on this new chapter with Öztürk, he’s also making strides toward health and freedom. Fans and friends are eagerly watching what’s next for the self-proclaimed King of Dancehall, now free to enjoy his long-awaited future.
