Foxy Brown to Revisit Iconic 1995 Record Label Bidding War in New Documentary
Foxy Brown has a brand new documentary on her life and career in the works.
Hip-hop icon Foxy Brown is ready to unveil a new documentary that delves into her rise to fame and a fierce 1995 bidding war when major record labels vied to sign her. Announcing the project on Instagram this Monday (October 28), Foxy teased what she called the “biggest bidding war in rap history,” involving legendary figures like Russell Simmons, Puff Daddy, Jimmy Iovine, and Sylvia Rhone.
“True Story. ’95 was the biggest bidding war in rap history,” she wrote, sharing that her team was split on which label to sign with. “4 biggest CEOs were at war to sign the Foxy deal. Russell, Puff, Jimmy, and Sylvia. Shit was nuts! … I chose Russell [Simmons] with the incentive JAY-Z had to be signed too.”
Foxy confirmed her choice was ultimately to join Def Jam, leading to an era-defining partnership that set her on a path of historic collaborations and success. The rapper tagged her announcement with fire emojis and promised fans more details on her decision-making process and the industry’s fierce competition for her talent.
The documentary is also expected to address longstanding rumors around her and JAY-Z. Earlier this month, Foxy took to social media to dismiss claims of an inappropriate relationship with the Roc Nation mogul during her early years, reiterating that she had nothing but a respectful and successful partnership with JAY-Z. Responding to rumors on social media, Foxy stated, “NDA? Ain’t a MF alive that could stop my story,” signaling her commitment to telling her own truth.
She emphasized that JAY-Z has been “wonderful” to her over the years, calling out the baseless rumors as a distraction from their accomplishments as artists and collaborators. In a statement to TMZ, she confirmed,
“Jay has only been wonderful to me and my family, a great friend throughout all the years I’ve known him, and we had nothing but great success as a team.”
Alongside support from TV producer Tracey Edmonds, who praised Foxy as a “trailblazing beauty,” fans are eager to see the documentary shed light on her journey from a young rapper to a pivotal figure in hip-hop. With promises of never-before-shared stories, the documentary aims to offer a closer look at the person behind the music and the decisions that made her a household name.
Stay tuned as Foxy Brown’s documentary promises to pull back the curtain on a career that helped shape hip-hop — and reveal the history behind one of rap’s most celebrated careers.
