Kendrick Lamar, who will headline the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, has stirred both excitement and debate within the hip-hop community. Notably, New Orleans icon Juvenile had previously expressed disappointment that his city’s hometown legend, Lil Wayne, wasn’t chosen for the honor. However, in a recent interview with Power 106’s Brown Bag Morning Show, Juvenile clarified his stance, saying his issue lies with the NFL’s process rather than Kendrick himself.
“Kendrick is one of the best performers we’ve ever seen,” Juvenile said. “He’s top notch, especially in Hip Hop. In the Hip Hop world, he raises the bar. So it’s something that everybody want to see, and if he calls, I’m there. No problem.”
Mannie Fresh, who joined Juvenile on the show, added, “We took a side ’cause we said that it would be cool if Wayne was in it. Of course we going to say that — that’s our team.” Juvenile emphasized he never intended to slight Kendrick, explaining, “My quarrel was never with JAY-Z or Kendrick… It was with the NFL. They come to our city and they throw this big major event… and we don’t see those benefits.”
Fans now eagerly await Kendrick’s Halftime Show performance, hoping it lives up to his reputation as a boundary-pushing artist known for his powerful storytelling and electrifying live shows. Rihanna’s stamp of approval only adds to the anticipation, as both artists continue to elevate the art of hip-hop on the global stage.
