Nicki Minaj’s Grammy Submissions for 2025

Could Pink Friday 2 enable Nicki Minaj to match Missy Elliott for the most Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album among female rappers? Billboard analyzes the current contenders.

Nicki Minaj is once again making headlines with her latest album, Pink Friday 2. The project has not only debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 but has also broken records by becoming the highest-grossing female rap tour of all time. This remarkable achievement has fans speculating whether it could finally earn Minaj her first Grammy award.

Despite being nominated for Best Rap Album twice in the past—first for Pink Friday in 2012 and again for The Pinkprint in 2016—Minaj has yet to win a Grammy, a reality that many fans hope will change with her latest offering. She is currently the second-most nominated female rapper in this category, trailing behind Missy Elliott, who boasts four nominations. Since the introduction of the Best Rap Album category in 1996, only two female rappers have claimed the honor: Lauryn Hill, as part of the Fugees for The Score in 1997, and Cardi B for Invasion of Privacy in 2018.

A nomination for Pink Friday 2 would mark Minaj’s first recognition for her own work in nearly a decade, as her last non-soundtrack nomination was in 2016. Last year, she received nods for her collaboration “Barbie World” with Ice Spice and AQUA from the Barbie soundtrack, but she hasn’t been acknowledged for her solo projects since then.

This year’s Grammy ceremony could also see a historic representation of female rappers, with several contenders vying for a nomination. Notable projects include Doja Cat’s Scarlet, GloRilla’s Ehhtang Ehhthang, Megan Thee Stallion’s Megan, and Latto’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea. With the possibility of multiple nominations for female artists, 2025 could mark the first time in Grammy history that several female rappers are recognized in the Best Rap Album category simultaneously.

Among this year’s contenders, Minaj’s chances are particularly strong given her recent successes. However, she is not alone in the race; other prominent male rappers, such as Eminem, Ye (formerly Kanye West), and Future, are also in contention for their respective projects. Eminem, a six-time Grammy winner in this category, could receive his first nomination in a decade for The Death of Slim Shady. Ye may extend his record with a nomination for his collaborative album Vultures 1 with Ty Dolla $ign.

As the 2025 Grammy nominations approach, predictions suggest that the competition will be fierce. Our forecast for the Best Rap Album nominees includes We Don’t Trust You by Future and Metro Boomin, Vultures 1, The Auditorium Vol. 1 by Common & Pete Rock, Blue Lips by ScHoolboy Q, and Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady. If these predictions hold true, it would mark the sixth consecutive year that male artists dominate the nominations in this category.

With all eyes on the Grammys, fans of Nicki Minaj and female rappers alike are eager to see how this year’s awards will unfold. Will Pink Friday 2 finally secure Minaj the recognition she deserves? Only time will tell.
