Tyler, The Creator Drops New Track ‘NOID’ Ahead of Upcoming CHROMAKOPIA Album Release
Tyler, The Creator’s highly anticipated album CHROMAKOPIA is set to drop on October 28, and today (October 21), just one week before the album release, Tyler unveiled the album’s second pre-release track titled “NOID.”
Following the eerie vibe of last week’s track “ST. CHROMA,” the visual for “NOID” opens with Tyler wearing a mask as he pushes through a crowd. The video, drenched in a monochromatic palette, adds to the intensity of the song’s themes. A surprise cameo by Emmy Award-winning actress Ayo Edebiri heightens the tension. At one point, she runs up to Tyler holding a phone, and later in the video, she’s seen wielding a gun, adding a sense of danger and urgency to the narrative.
Tyler raps about paranoia and fear, delving into the pressures and invasions of privacy that come with fame. Lines like,
“I can’t even buy a home in private / Home invaders got my brothers dyin’ / Notice every car that’s drivin’ by / I think my neighbors want me dead” reflect the anxieties that can consume those constantly in the public eye. The rapper even references keeping a weapon for protection, with the line, “I got a cannon underneath the bed.”
CHROMAKOPIA will arrive just three weeks before Tyler’s headline performance at the 2024 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, marking the 10th anniversary of the festival. The event, taking place from November 16-17 at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium, will feature a stacked lineup including Playboi Carti, Sexyy Red, Denzel Curry, Doechii, Tommy Richman, and ScHoolboy Q, among others. Producers like Mustard and The Alchemist are set to perform, and a tribute to the late MF DOOM is also expected.
Tyler hasn’t released a full-length LP since 2021’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, which won Best Rap Album at the 64th Grammy Awards. That album featured tracks like “WUSYANAME” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ty Dolla $ign, “JUGGERNAUT” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, and “SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE,” among others. Collaborators on the project included heavy hitters like Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams, and Brent Faiyaz.
In terms of CHROMAKOPIA, the album’s visual direction has already sparked interest. The artwork for Tyler’s previous album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, was designed by Gregory Ferrand, who collaborated closely with the rapper. Ferrand shared insights on working with Tyler, saying, “He had a clear vision and knew exactly what he wanted. His aesthetic is very much aligned with the 1960s look I love to paint.”
With CHROMAKOPIA just around the corner, fans are eager to see how Tyler will push creative boundaries once again. His evolving sound, visual artistry, and thoughtful narratives continue to solidify his place as one of hip-hop’s most inventive forces.
