Rod Wave’s latest studio album, Last Lap, has made a significant impact on the music scene by debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to reports on October 21. The Florida-born artist is now among the elite, joining Taylor Swift as the only musicians to have a project debut within the Top 10 every year since 2019. This remarkable achievement highlights Wave’s consistency and appeal in the ever-evolving music industry.

According to Luminate data, Last Lap sold an impressive 127,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week, with 125,000 of those stemming from on-demand streams. This latest success follows a string of previous chart-topping projects, including Ghetto Gospel (No. 10 in 2019), Pray 4 Love (No. 2 in 2020), and SoulFly, Beautiful Mind, and Nostalgia (all of which reached No. 1 in their respective years).

Last Lap features pre-release tracks like “Passport Junkie” and “Fall Fast in Love,” showcasing collaborations with artists such as Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, and Rylo Rodriguez. To support this album, Rod Wave will embark on his Last Lap Tour, which runs until mid-December, giving fans an opportunity to experience his music live.

Reflecting on his journey in the music industry, Wave expressed his surprise at being compared to Taylor Swift, stating,

“Being compared to Taylor Swift, you can’t even wrap your head around that kind of s**t. I remember ninth grade, being on my school bus listening to ‘Blank Space.’ Now I’m really in the game. I went from the nosebleeds to the franchise player of the team with three rings.”

In other notable chart news, GloRilla’s album GLORIOUS secured the No. 5 spot on the Billboard 200. The Memphis native humorously remarked on the competition, saying,

“When Rod Wave drops, it’s like the whole music world shuts down. I didn’t want nobody to drop on my day. I wanted the day to be special, but it’s OK, we can share.”

As Last Lap continues to gain traction, Rod Wave reaffirms his status as a prominent figure in contemporary R&B and hip-hop, proving that his unique sound and storytelling resonate deeply with fans across the globe.
