Dame Dash Breaks Silence on ‘Fiesta’ Video Cameo After Aaliyah’s Marriage to R. Kelly: ‘I Didn’t Want Any Part of It’
“If you remember ‘The Best of Both Worlds,’ you don’t see my name on that […] I never wanted no part of that,” he explained.
Dame Dash has addressed his controversial appearance in JAY-Z and R. Kelly’s “Fiesta” video, following R. Kelly’s illegal marriage to Aaliyah in 1994. Speaking on his America Nu Network, Dame explained that he didn’t want any involvement in the project, adding:
“I didn’t want a dollar from it.”
He revealed that before filming, Aaliyah asked him to stay away from R. Kelly during the shoot, saying, “I just want to heal and get as far away from it as possible.” Dame respected her wishes, avoiding any scenes or photos with Kelly.

The Roc-A-Fella co-founder reflected on the dynamics of the shoot, stating, “I stayed in the trailer when they shot scenes with R. Kelly.” He emphasized his discomfort, particularly knowing Kelly’s history with Aaliyah, who was just 15 when she married the singer. Dame, who dated Aaliyah until her tragic death in 2001, has been vocal about his disdain for Kelly and his disappointment in JAY-Z’s decision to work with him.
Dame previously criticized JAY-Z for collaborating with Kelly, stating: “I couldn’t believe he did a project with R. Kelly knowing that he had raped my girl.”
R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence for child sex crimes, racketeering, and sex trafficking.
