Rod Wave Poised to Outperform GloRilla in Sales After Album Release Date Clash
Rod Wave’s new album is on track to outsell GloRilla’s debut in first week sales.
GloRilla and Rod Wave recently dropped their latest projects on the same day, and it’s clear Big Glo had some mixed feelings about the clash — especially as Rod’s numbers are projected to more than double hers in first-week sales.
According to Hits Daily Double, Rod Wave’s Last Lap is expected to move 130,000 sales equivalent units in its debut week, while GloRilla’s Glorious is projected to reach 60,000 units. This strong performance could land Rod at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, behind Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken. However, according to Billboard‘s report on October 16, the race for the top spot is still too close to call, with Charli XCX’s Brat potentially coming out on top thanks to its newly released remix edition.
The tension between GloRilla and Rod Wave over the shared release date began on September 26 when Rod announced that Last Lap would drop on October 11—the same day Glo had set for her debut LP, Glorious. GloRilla was less than thrilled, commenting on Rod’s post:
“WHY DF WOULD YOU DROP ON MY DAY I’M FINNA TWEAK OUT.”
Rod responded in a seemingly playful tone on his Instagram Stories, writing, “La twin drop same night,” accompanied by a photo of the two in the studio together, signaling he had no intention of changing the date.
Despite the competition, GloRilla made waves with her creative album promotion. She took things to the next level by incorporating the Glorious album cover into her hairstyle, sparking plenty of fan praise. In a series of Instagram photos, Big Glo showcased her new look, with fans hyping her up in the comments. “Your hair is the first I ever seen tell ‘em don’t be trynna copy you,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Now that’s how you promote an album baby [fire emojis] on the hurrrrrrrrrr BIG GLOOOOOOOOOOO.”
While the numbers may favor Rod Wave, GloRilla’s bold marketing and loyal fanbase are sure to keep her in the spotlight as both artists make their mark with these new releases.
