Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, co-founder of the notorious Black Mafia Family (BMF), is moving closer to freedom. He was recently transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Coleman Low to community confinement under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Miami Residential Reentry Management (RRM) Office. This transition, which occurred on October 15, 2024, indicates that Flenory will serve the remainder of his sentence either in home confinement or at a halfway house.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Flenory is expected to be officially released on January 27, 2026. His attorney, Brittany K. Barnett, expressed her joy over his transfer, stating that Flenory had used his time behind bars to focus on personal growth and transformation. She added, “Two decades is an incredibly long time, and it’s been inspiring to witness the power of hope and resilience.”

Flenory was originally arrested in 2005 and sentenced in 2008 to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering through his BMF organization. Earlier this year, his sentence was reduced by 32 months, thanks to Barnett’s legal efforts.

Founded in 1985, BMF initially presented itself as a creative agency and Hip-Hop label. However, authorities later discovered that the organization was involved in drug distribution, reportedly generating over $270 million from cocaine sales across the U.S. Despite his incarceration, Flenory’s legacy lives on in pop culture, including the hit TV series BMF, which chronicles the rise and fall of the Black Mafia Family.
